I HAVE QUESTIONS!…

YOU’RE NOT ALONE

HERE ARE THE FAQS

  • The list of benefits is long....

While Florida now allows permitless carry, there are several benefits to obtaining a concealed weapons permit (CWP) that make it worthwhile for many individuals. Here are the key advantages:

    1. Reciprocity with Other States: A Florida concealed weapons permit is recognized in many other states that do not honor permitless carry. This means that permit holders can legally carry their firearms in states with reciprocal agreements, making it a significant benefit for travelers.

    2. Enhanced Legal Protections: While permitless carry allows for the concealed carry of a firearm, having a permit can provide additional legal protections and clarity in certain situations. Permit holders may be more familiar with legal nuances, such as where they can and cannot carry, and are often viewed as more responsible and educated in the eyes of the law.

    3. Ease of Purchase: Permit holders enjoy expedited background checks when purchasing firearms from licensed dealers. While all firearms purchased from a licensed dealer require a Federal background check, having a FL Concealed Weapons Permit allows you to bypass the three day waiting period that is mandatory for non-permitted buyers since you have already been vetted by the State.

    4. Additional Training and Education: Obtaining a concealed weapons permit typically requires completing a training course, which can be invaluable for new and experienced gun owners alike. The training often includes important information about firearm safety, handling, and legal responsibilities, leading to more responsible and informed carry practices.

    5. Access to Certain Areas: Some areas and establishments may allow concealed carry for permit holders but not for those carrying under permitless carry laws. This can include places like state parks, certain businesses, and educational institutions.

    6. Legal Defense Insurance: Some legal defense insurance policies for gun owners may only be available to those with a concealed weapons permit. This insurance can cover legal fees and other costs in the event of a defensive gun use incident.

    7. Professional and Social Perception: Holding a permit can demonstrate a commitment to responsible firearm ownership and training. It may be viewed positively in professional or social contexts where responsible gun ownership is respected.

    8. Renewal and Record Keeping: A permit provides an official record of an individual's status as a concealed carrier. This can be useful for personal record-keeping and for law enforcement interactions.

    9. Special Privileges: In some jurisdictions, permit holders may be granted additional privileges, such as the ability to carry in certain government buildings or events where firearms are otherwise restricted.

    10. Peace of Mind: Carrying with a permit can provide peace of mind, knowing that one has met the legal requirements and has documentation to prove it. This can be reassuring in situations where one's right to carry might be questioned.

BONUS: Florida Permitless Carry laws only allow for the carry of a firearm for self defense and does not cover other weapons. Having a Florida Concealed Weapons Permit allows for the carrying of all legal weapons. Note: This does not extend to all states that recognize the Florida permit. It is your responsibility to check local and state laws before carrying weapons concealed in different jurisdictions.
